Pure bending of reinforced concrete example #1

7/25/2017

This Mechanics of Materials tutorial goes over pure bending example problem with reinforced concrete.

There is an error in this video in the calculation of moment of inertia, that starts around 10:34 and carries through till the end. I was distracted while speaking, and somehow the calculations went haywire. The correct values are as follows:
  • Moment of Inertia = 0.001362m^4
  • Max Compressive Stress in Concrete = 24.4 kPa
  • Max Tensile Stress in Steel = 333 kPa
